Led by manager Kirk Gibson, the Arizona Diamondbacks arrived in Sydney, Australia in the early hours of Tuesday morning to kick off Major League Baseball's (MLB) latest overseas opening day.

Diamondbacks slugger Paul Goldschmidt is part of the squad that will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a pair of season opening games this Saturday and Sunday at Sydney Cricket Ground.

The iconic SCG ground has been transformed into a baseball diamond for the first time in a century.

The Dodgers and Diamondbacks will warm up with midweek exhibition games against Team Australia.

The trip to Australia is the first time Major League Baseball has opened the season 'Down Under'.

MLB has previously staged overseas season openers in Monterrey, Mexico in 1999, Tokyo, Japan on four occasions and San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2001.
