Ogier triumphs in Mexico

  • Intro:

Sebastien Ogier moved to the top of the WRC standings thanks to victory in the Rally Mexico on Sunday (9th March).

    Script:

Sebastien Ogier went into the final day of the Rally Mexico with a 60 second lead and continued his good form into Sunday.

Saturday's race had in fact thinned out the field and meant there would not be any dramatic movements in the leaderboard.

The priority for most competitors was to nurse the cars home safely.

With this in mind, Martin Prokop and Elfyn Evans - fifth and fourth at the start of the day - closed Sunday in the same position.

Thierry Neuville took third place and made history for Hyundai.

It was the Korean manufacturer's maiden podium finish in just their third rally.

Jari-Matti Latvala finished second picking up 18 points although this was not enough to hold off Ogier's charge.

Ogier - who won in Mexico a year ago - repeated himself in 2014 with a margin of 72.6 seconds over his Volkswagen team-mate.

The next stage in the World Rally Championships will be the Rally Portugal - it starts on April 3rd.
