The eighth Strade Bianche one-day race was held in Italy on Saturday and provided some dramatic moments.

Four Italians were the first to break into a lead - Davide Frattini, Andrea Fedi, Marco Frapporti and Angelo Pagani got the home support excited but it wouldn't last...

10 sections of this course were on dusty gravel roads, one of which caused havoc for Pagani.

The Italian regained his composure though to retake the lead. He was soon caught by Slovakian rider Peter Sagan with 22 kilometres to go...

He held on until the final stretch of the race, a 16 percent climb through the streets of the Piazza del Campo in Siena, Poland's Michal Kwiatkowski timed his push to perfection to power up the hill and win the 200 kilometre race.

Sagan held on for second and Spain's Alejandro Valverde completed the top three.
