  • Intro:

India's flag was finally hoisted at the Sochi Olympics on Sunday (16 February), five days after the International Olympic Committee lifted a 14-month ban on India, and more than a week after the Games began.

SOUNDBITE (English) Narayna Ramachandran, President of the Indian Olympic Association:
"It's a tremendous boost for Indian sports. Having been out of the Olympic movement for nearly 15 months, and the Indian Sports Federation, national sports bodies, were suffering because you didn't have the IOC grants, you didn't have grants from the Indian government, and to have the ban lifted within two days is truly amazing."

SOUNDBITE (English) Shiva Keshavan, Indian luge competitor:
"Unfortunately, there is a lot of politics played with the flag of India which I am sure many people back home are not happy with, but now that's over, I think that's a lesson learnt for everybody, and the important thing is too look ahead, and now focus on sports, focus on performance, focus on the athletes, and that is what I am hoping to see."
