  • Intro:

Men's downhill gold medalist Matthias Mayer says that he 'felt good all week' on the course in Sochi, and that his victory shouldn't be considered that much of a surprise.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Matthias Mayer, Men's Downhill Winner:
"This week, last week was pretty perfect for me. I felt good the whole week, I was smiling on the away down. Maybe I knew I can win this race and yeah. Now I am Olympic champion."

"I think it wasn't really a surprise because i was so fast in training. I was really fast in the last World Cup races in Bormio and Wengen and, of course, I have never had a World Cup podium in Downhill but I knew I can ski fast on this hill and that was my advantage."

SOUNDBITE: (German) Matthias Mayer, Men's Downhill Winner:
"It's a huge load off my mind. the downhill team has been critised a little over the past few years, and with Hannes winning Kitzbuehl two weeks ago and now winning the Olympics, that's really cool."
