Holland and Jacobellis going for glory for US

  • Intro:

Nate Holland and Lindsey Jacobellis are both confident that they can bring success to the US snowboard-cross team in Sochi - Jacobellis was metres away from glory in Turin in 2006, before an ill-timed piece of showboating cost her a gold medal.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Nate Holland, USA: "This year - it started off pretty rough for me. My whole season kind of got derailed with an injury in December and so that kind of reset everything. I was able to scratch my way on to this team with a result in Andorra and then a couple of weeks later be able to win X-Games. I have been on the right trajectory I feel and that kind of boosted my confidence for sure and let me know that I can trust in my riding and that the results will come."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Lindsey Jacobellis, USA: (on seeking redemption after crashing out at the Games in 2006) "Absolutely not. When you come to any event it is really embracing where you are and trying your best, because there is no situation that is ever going to be the same. All my years of racing I have been racing now for 16 years - and I have never had a situation again like that. To even try to put it in a redemption category. I am always trying to do my best and win and that doesn't happen. The field of women (in the sport) has increased and I like to think that I had something to do with that."

"I realise that that is how the media are spinning it and I am just trying to make sure I have my race and control what I can control because that is all you can do in 'boardercross because I can't control if someone comes into me. I can only control all of my boards, that I have everything, that I have all my equipment and that is all I can really focus on and I can do my race as best I can."
