Vladimir Putin attended a reception hosted by IOC president Thomas Bach, just 24 hours before the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games.

Russian organisers have claimed that a record number of world dignitaries will be coming to Sochi for the games, including the President of China, who met with Putin on Thursday.

The IOC confirmed 44 world leaders will be present in Sochi, triple the amount that attended the 2010 Vancouver Games.

However Olympic officials have declined to provide the names of the leaders coming to the opening ceremony or the countries they represent.
