A star-struck crowd watched on as Tiger Woods teed off for the first time ever in India, playing 18 holes at a private event at the Delhi Golf Club in the capital city on Tuesday.

Woods arrived in New Delhi on Monday after finishing tied for 41st at the Dubai Desert Classic.

He is in India as a guest of Hero Motors, a sponsor of the Indian Open tournament on the Asian Tour.

Tiger played a round of golf with a few of the corporate leaders and some prominent Indian golfers - Shiv Kapur and the promising Anirban Lahiri.

Security was tight around Woods and the organisers kept out a large contingent of media, denying them entry to the club.

Earlier, it was reported that Woods met up with Indian cricket hero and recently-retired batting legend Sachin Tendulkar at a hotel in the city.

After the meeting, Woods tweeted, " Just met a cricket legend and his family. Sachin Tendulkar was so cool and loved being welcomed to India".

Woods flew out of India later in the day - and is now expected to feature at the WGC Matchplay event to be held in Arizona on the 19th of February.
