With the Sochi Olympics just around the corner, the world's best freestyle skiiers assembled at Deer Valley Ski Resort near Salt Lake City for the latest round of the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup.

China isn't a country that has traditionally done well in winter sports.

    But in aerials they dominate.

And in the men's event Qi Guangpu thought he had done enough, his quintuple-spinning backflip warranting a score of 114.

However, China were to be denied - Belarussian Olympic champion Anton Kushnir earning 127.15 with his spectacular effort, and takes the lead in the World Cup standings.

China fared better in the women's competition.

Zhang Xin placed down a formidable marker with back full, double full jumps, and claimed a score of 88.47.

But she was to be beaten by one of her own countrywomen.

Cheng Shuang attempted an identical jump, but her cleaner landing saw her take the spoils.

It's Zhang who moves into the lead though in the World Cup standings following her second-place finish.
