German bobsleigh fans were overjoyed on Sunday as they won both the women's and men's events at Winterberg in their own back yard.

In the the women's two man event, German pilot Sandra Kiriasis took the gold medal in a time of 1:55.41 minutes.

Finishing just 0.01 seconds behind her was the USA, led by Elana Meyers with Anja Schneiderheinze and Stephanie Schneider of Germany taking bronze.

Germany continued to assert their dominance in the men's four man race when Maximilian Arndt won gold, much to the home supporters' delight.

Their bobsleigh monopoly continued as they claimed silver and bronze to make it five medals for Germany in 24 hours. Not bad for a day's work!
