Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar beat CSKA Moscow in overtime of the first ever all-Russian Top 16 clash in the Euroleague on Friday.


Elsewhere, Bayern Munich beat Zalgiris Kaunas while Olympiacos Piraeus overcame Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul.

The Euroleague Basketball Top 16 kicked off on Friday. 16 teams down from 24 are split into two groups, with the top four from each progessing to the play-offs.

A first all-Russian showdown in the Top 16 meant tension was high on Friday, as Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar hosted CSKA Moscow.


Neither side managed to impose themselves in the final two quarters. Into overtime and Milos Teodosic's two here putting CSKA back infront wasn't enough as it finished 77-84 for a Lokomotiv win.

Lithuanians, Zalgiris Kaunas, took on Bayern Munich in their first game of the Euroleague Top 16 on Friday.

Despite a fast start from the hosts, Bayern led 10-15 at the end of the first quarter.

The German side ran out 84-66 victors to make a strong start in their debut season in the Top 16.

A pair of regular season group winners faced each other in the final first round match, when Olympiacos Piraeus took on Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul.

Despite a 10-0 run to the hosts midway through the second quarter, Fenerbahce kept themselves in touch at 47-40 at half-time.

Some organised defence from Fenerbache allowed for a number of steals in the third and fourth quarters

Yet late contributions from the likes of Matthew Lojeski ensured that it was the hosts who ran out victors, winning 95-82.
