It was finals day at the Sao Paulo Beach Volleyball Grand Slam in Brazil on Sunday

First up was the men's contest between second seeds Pedro Salgado and Bruno Schmidt of Brazil and Phil Dalhausser and Casey Jennings of the USA,

A tight first set went to the Brazilians 23-21.

At 19-19 in the second set the home pair were just two points from victory.

But two excellent blocks in successive points from Dalhausser gave the set to the USA.

However, Salgado and Schmidt were always on top in the tie-breaker and they took it 15-13 to win the event on their home court.

The women's final saw the April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings of the USA, take on Germans Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst.

The Americans pulled out to a 15-10 lead but the Germans fought back and levelled at 17 each.

Ludwig and Walkenhorst maintained their momentum and took the set 21-19.

In the second set the Germans were at match point on no less that eight occasions.

But their opponents clung on and it was they who finally took it 31-29 to take the final into a tie-breaker.

In that tie-breaker it was Ross and Walsh Jennings who, having come so close to defeat, seized the initiative.

Always in front, they sealed their win 15-12 after a match lasting 65 minutes.
