USA ready for Costa Rica test

Wednesday, March 20 2013 by SNTV
  • Intro:

The US Men's National Soccer Team trained in Denver, Colorado on Tuesday, ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica on Friday, March 22th and Mexico on March 26th.

The US national team will face Costa Rica at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Colorado on Friday in what is shaping up to be a 'must-win' match.

The US were beaten 2-1 by Honduras in their opening game in the six-team CONCACAF World Cup qualifying group and the pressure is mounting to pick up three points at home.

Another defeat on Friday would put the US in a precarious position early on in the final qualifying round ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"We know the importance of the game. It's not a 48 hour turnaround like it was for Honduras - with a lot of the European guys flying that long journey and adjusting. We've got a full week here together for guys to form that chemistry and understanding and gelling as quickly as possible to get three points in the game. But we know the importance of it. We know it's going to be hard, but we're looking forward to the game.

    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"It's been very nice to come in and have three or four days of good training before the game on Friday. The mindset here from all the players is we're very focused. We know what's at stake and we're really preparing for Friday night."
