Hsieh Su-Wei prepares for Shenzhen Open

    World number 25, Hsieh Su-Wei, who won the Guangzhou Open in October, will be one of the title contenders at the WTA Shenzhen Open, which started on Saturday.

    With a new year approaching a new WTA tennis tournament got underway in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.

    As one of 53 stops on the WTA series, the Shenzhen Open will be span both the old and new year - it finishes on January 5th, 2013.

    Top Taiwanese player Hsieh Su-Wei is seeded fourth at the event and will play against Melinda Czink of Hungary in the first round.

    Hsieh is among the top ten players who have vastly improved their rankings over the past season, moving from number 172 in 2011 to 25 in 2012.

    Over the past five years Hsieh has won nine women's doubles' titles in WTA tournaments. 

    After winning her first singles title in Kuala Lumpur in March, Hsieh wrapped up her season with another WTA trophy in Guangzhou in late September. She beat British young gun Laura Robson in three sets.

    She also reached the third round of Wimbledon for the first time - losing to then world number one Maria Sharapova.
