The Betfair Chase was the feature race at Haydock Park on Saturday.

The race is a Grade 1 National Hunt Steeplechase which is open to horses aged five years or older.

It's traditionally run over three miles (4,828 metres), and features eighteen fences to be jumped - with a generous £200,000 (320,690 US dollars) in prize money on offer.

The going was soft and heavy in places due to plenty of rain.

Silviniaco Conti continued his rapid progression up the ranks by out-pointing Long Run in the gruelling race.

Just as his Paul Nicholls-trained stablemate Kauto Star did 12 months ago, the six-year-old made all the running in the hands of Ruby Walsh.

Silviniaco Conti at 7-4 jumped well throughout to win the Betfair Chase with Long Run, the 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, finishing second.

The Giant Bolster came in third.

    Wayward Prince was a non-runner.
