  • Intro:

Team Sky's Mark Cavendish wins stage four of the Tour of Britain from Carlisle to Blackpool, England on Wednesday to take the overall lead.

    Script:

Team Sky's Mark Cavendish won a second successive stage win in Blackpool on Wednesday to take the leader's gold jersey.

The reigning world road race champion was tied at the start of the fourth stage with overnight leader Leigh Howard.

And a breakaway group led for most of the down from Carlisle to Blackpool in some very wet conditions.

That group included Mathew Cronshaw, David Le Lay, Dan Craven and Ronan McLaughlin and together they worked up a lead of over six minutes.

But another strong team was also gaining ground - Bradley Wiggins, Christian Knees and Bernhard Eisel setting up Luke Rowe and Mark Cavendish in the closing stages.

A mad dash for the line, but it was Cavendish who crossed it first to take the gold jersey.

The Tour of Britain continues with an 147-kilometre stage around Stoke on Thursday.
