Redgrave rows Olympic torch through Henley

  • Intro:

Sir Steve Redgrave rowed the Olympic torch through Henley-on-Thames on Tuesday (10th July).

    Script:

Another damp squib of a summer day lit up by the ubiquitous and ever-burning Olympic flame.

On Tuesday it was the turn of British rowing legend and five-time Olympic champion Sir Steve Redgrave to carry the torch at Henley-on-Thames.

Aided by the rest of his crew, Redgrave held the torch in his right hand and majestically rowed with his left as he helped steer a boat to the Leander rowing club.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Sir Steve Redgrave:
"That was very, very special. Great atmosphere. I've had some special times but that was pretty good."

That may not be the last time the five-time gold medal winner handles the torch.

Redgrave is the British bookmakers' favourite to light the cauldron at the opening ceremony on July 27th.
