World number nine Simon Santoso opened Indonesia's Thomas Cup Group A campaign against England's Rajiv Ouseph in Monday's evening session in Wuhan.

A tight first game, Santoso finally gained the edge with a cross court smash on the way to winning the opening set 21-19.

Ouseph didn't offer much resistance in the second game as Simon Santoso cruised to take the match 21-19, 21-9 and give Indonesia a 1-0 lead.

But England levelled in the second when Chris Adcock and Andrew Ellis upset Beijing Olympic champions 21-19, 14-21, 21-17.

In the third match, former Olympic and world champion Taufik Hidayat was up against England's Carl Baxter.

Taufik gained a 9-7 lead in the second.

On his way to a 21-12, 21-16 victory, which left Indonesia needing just one more match to clinch the best-of-five tie.

England's Chris Langridge and Nathan Robertson lost to Mohammad Ahsan and Alvent Yulianto Chandra - 21-19, 12-21, 21-19, giving Indonesia an insurmountable 3-1 lead.

Then Indonesia's Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka swept past Ben Beckman 21-11, 21-13 to complete the final 4-1 margin of victory.

England are eliminated, whilst Indonesia will play China on Tuesday for the Group A title.
