China defeat England 5-0 in Wuhan

    China and Korea breezed through their first group ties in the Thomas Cup on Sunday, while South Korea beat Australia 5-0 in the Uber Cup.

    The 2012 Thomas Cup, also known as the World Men's Team Badminton Championships started in Wuhan on Sunday.

    China's Lin Dan is playing in his sixth successive Thomas Cup - and favourites China started their campaign with a 5-0 win over England. 

    Lin Dan showed off his characteristicly defensive skills, with a backhand winner to lead 14-10 in the first game.

    He went on to beat world number 19 Rajiv Ouseph 21-14, 21-10 in just over half an hour.

    China's number two Chen Long then made light work of beating Ben Beckham as he won 21-5, 21-5.

    In the tie between Korea and USA, Shon Wan-Ho defeated Sattawat Pongnaiat 21-7, 21-6.

    In the women's Uber CupTeam Championships, South Korea dispatched Australia 5-0.

    The pair of Kim Min-Jung and Ha Jung-Eun defeated Renuga Veeran and Leanne Choo in straight sets 21-15, 21,10.

    World number 13 Bae Youn-Joo outclassed Tara Pilven 21-5, 20-2 and wrapped up the Korean victory.

    In the other Uber Cup matches, China's number one ranked Wang Yihan dropped just three points against Kerry-Lee Harrington before leading her team to a 5-0 win over South Africa in Group A.

    In Group D, The United States went down to Japan 5-0.
