The mascot Grand National

Tuesday, May 08 2012 by SNTV

  • Intro:

Mr Bumble emphasised his position as the world's speediest mascot by retaining his Grand National title at Kempton Park racecourse on Monday.

    Script:

Horses, cats and just about any creature you can imagine at Kempton Park racecourse on Bank Holiday Monday.

As the fine and the furry took part in the Mascot Grand National.

This event used to be purely about football mascots, but now the love is open to all varieties great and small.

Don't think this is a piece of whimsical nonsense - some take this very, very seriously.

    And they were off!

Mr Bumble made a strong start, but could he hold it?

Super Ted and a devil thing close behind.

Some mascots chose a more leisurely pace, whilst other obviously hadn't been working those cheering muscles hard enough.

    Come on horsey!

Mr Bumble victorious in the end - and more than a little bit excited by the win.

SOUNDBITE (English): 'Mr Bumble' (Wayne Humber), Barnet FC:

"Ecstatic. Mr Bumble is buzzing. I didn't know I had won it until they announced it, couldn't see. Just kept going. 'Hit the wall' (exhaustion) near the last hurdle, thought I had blown it. Just come home ... brought it home. Back-to-back wins - ecstatic."

So a proud day for Mr Bumble, but most definitely a fun one for everyone.
