Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is known for sporting a controversial haircut every once in a while, and the Arsenal striker's latest box-braid style has not gone down well with Gunners fans

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has baffled Arsenal fans by showing off a controversial new hairstyle on social media.

Aubameyang has sported a number of bold haircuts over the years, most recently dying his locks red and white after the Gunners’ FA Cup triumph last summer.

Now he has taken on a new look during the latest international break, opting for a striking box-braid style inspired by rapper Travis Scott.

His half-brother Willy shared a picture of them together on Instagram with a light-hearted caption that reads: “New song is coming soon”.

He then jokingly tagged the Arsenal ace as Scott in the picture.

Willy also tagged himself as dancehall legend Sean Paul in another hilarious comparison.

But Gunners supporters were not a fan of their star striker’s new barnet, voicing their concerns with the haircut on Twitter.

One wrote: “I can’t defend this man any longer ffs”.

Another put: “What the hell is this?!!!”

A third commented: “As hair styles go it’s a no from me”.

While one quipped: “Thanks for the goals, but it's time to say goodbye to that hairstyle Auba”.

Aubameyang’s shock new look comes after his impressive display for Gabon against DR Congo while on international duty this week.

He registered a goal and assist in Gabon’s 3-0 victory, which ensured their qualification for next year’s African Cup of Nations tournament.

His performance will have pleased Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who recently raised eyebrows by dropping him to the bench in their north London derby clash with Tottenham for disciplinary reasons.

After the international break, the Gunners have a crunch clash with Premier League champions Liverpool to come at The Emirates.
