Tottenham identify Julian Nagelsmann as no.1 target to replace Jose Mourinho

Word stemming from the English media on Monday night has provided an insight into Tottenham's potential plans, post-Jose Mourinho.

Hammers victorious

Spurs were of course back in Premier League action yesterday afternoon.

The Lilywhites made the trip to the London stadium, for a derby meeting with West Ham United.

Tottenham headed into proceedings in desperate search of a bounce-back result, having seen the club's domestic form fall off a cliff of late, en route to 4 league defeats in 5.

When all was said and done in the capital on Sunday, however, the woes of the visitors only deepened.

A 2nd-half strike from Lucas Moura eventually proved little more than a consolation, as goals from Michail Antonio and Jesse Lingard guided West Ham to a 2-1 victory:

Mou out/Nagelsmann in?

On the back of proceedings coming to a close a little over 24 hours ago, however, it was not the result which took centre stage in the post-match chatter.

Instead, it was Jose Mourinho.

This came with the Tottenham boss having done his best to shift the blame away from both he and his coaching staff for Spurs' woes of late.

Mourinho appeared to place the onus on Daniel Levy and the transfer chiefs in north London, in explaining:

'We have problems in the team that I cannot resolve by myself as a coach.'

The Portuguese tactician continued:

'The results are the consequences of multiple situations in football. Mine and my coaching staff methods are second to nobody in the world.'

Such comments, however, appear altogether unlikely to have the effect which Mourinho so evidently desires.

Instead, the former Chelsea boss' delusions of grandeur look set to alienate him further from not only his players, but also the club's board, and potentially even the contingent of Tottenham supporters who have continued to back him throughout their side's recent struggles.

As such, if things continue along their current path in north London, it appears a near certainty that Mourinho will soon find himself searching for a new job.

And, as outlined above, if such a parting of ways at Spurs is indeed to be forthcoming this summer, then it appears that the club's board already have a plan in place to move forward into next season and beyond.

As per a report from the Telegraph, the hierarchy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have identified Julian Nagelsmann as their no.1 target to replace Mourinho.

RB Leipzig boss Nagelsmann has long been held in high regard in his home country, having impressed at both the Red Bull Arena, and with Hoffenheim.

The German is also just 33 years of age, meaning he would of course add a newfound air of youth and exuberance to the Spurs bench.

Significantly, it is also suggested that Nagelsmann himself would be open to the idea of a move to the English capital.
