Chelsea have been linked with Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl amid Frank Lampard's struggles in west London.

Chelsea reportedly have interest in Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl amid Frank Lampard’s current woes over at Stamford Bridge. But the Saints manager won’t leave his post midway through the season, despite the Blues being big admirers. Lampard is under pressure in west London, with his side struggling of late.

Chelsea were planning for a top-two finish at the start of the campaign, with Roman Abramovich thinking the club had enough to challenge for the Premier League title.

But the Blues have been woeful of late, winning just one of their last six league matches.

Chelsea currently sit ninth in the table and new signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, amongst others, have failed to settle in the capital so far.

For now, Lampard’s job is safe. Chelsea know he’s popular with fans and don’t want to risk rushing into a decision just yet.

But Hasenhuttl is being eyed regardless, with the German working wonders over at Southampton.

Yet the Daily Mail say that he wouldn’t leave Southampton midway through the season, which would rule him out of the race to replace Lampard should a sacking take place before the end of the campaign.

He’s not the only person on Abramovich’s radar, either.

Massimiliano Allegri is a contender for the Chelsea job, with the Italian still out of work following his departure from Juventus back in 2019.

Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked by Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in December, is another on Chelsea’s shortlist.

Ralf Rangnick is a surprise name in the frame, with the 62-year-old held in high regard throughout the footballing world.

And RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann is also being eyed, though he’s unlikely to leave his post over in Germany just yet.

Meanwhile, Lampard is confident he can get Chelsea back onto the right path, saying ahead of his side’s FA Cup showdown with Morecambe: “I’m very confident in what I do, whether people want to think that I’ve been a manager for two and a half years.

"I’ve been playing football since I could walk, I’ve been playing professionally for 20-odd years and tried to take as much in in those days as I do now.

"I don’t like losing games. On Monday I’m disappointed because we lost a game to a team that were better than us on the day.

"On Tuesday I wake up and I’m determined to get better. That’s the only way I see it.

"If I didn’t want that challenge I could have sat on the telly and done an easier job.

"I could have been a pundit commenting on what everyone does with hindsight and whenever I want. And I don’t want to do that.

"In terms of the game, I don’t want to get involved in what happens if … all I care about is preparing the team for Morecambe.”

Lampard then added: “I realised pretty quickly in this job that whether we win or lose there will be players who will be wanting to play.

"Some will use that with real positivity, some maybe not so much.

"Some will maybe speak behind backs. I can’t be concerned with that. If there are opportunities for them to leave it will have to be right for them, the club and myself.”
