Preston defender Darnell Fisher has has put himself at risk of a ban after appearing to fondle the penis of Callum Paterson.

The versatile Sheffield Wednesday forward traveled with his team-mates to take on their Championship rivals on Saturday - but slipped to a 1-0 defeat thanks to Tom Barkhuizen’s strike.

When asked about the incident between Paterson and Fisher, Pulis said: “I’m sure with everybody on social media and all the places that pieces, he’ll be up in flames now if he’s done that."

Fans have stated their displeasure at the incident on social media.

One said: “People will have a laugh about this, but how is it acceptable to touch anyone’s genitalia without consent?!”

A second added: “It bemused me seeing this. How is this acceptable in the game?”

The incident comes after England prop Joe Marler was been banned for 10 weeks for grabbing Alun Wyn Jones' penis during a Six Nations match against Wales earlier this year.

Marler pleaded guilty in the citing to foul play, but did not accept the allegation that he "grabbed, twisted or squeezed the genitals" of Jones.

He then said of his actions: "What I did was inappropriate and wrong on that stage.

“The people that came out and compared it to sexual assault in the workplace completely blew my mind but I did stop for a second and take on their opinions and how they were made to feel about it all.

"They are completely entitled to their opinion and I respect that. However, I didn’t sexually assault someone in the workplace.

“I tickled someone's k**b, as a laugh, who I'd known for several years now, on the wrong stage, really.

"I should have probably waited for there not to be cameras around but it was a bit of a brain fart."
