Jordan Pickford and his wife has increased security at his house as the Everton star received death threats.

The goalkeeper was targeted after his part in the Merseyside derby that saw the Toffees draw 2-2 with Liverpool, putting in a tackle on Virgil van Dijk that tore his ACL and will keep him out for most of the season.

After avoiding disciplinary action from the FA, pundits were left baffled at the decision as he also avoided a red card.

It has now seen Pickford contract a security firm to creating a “ring of steel” around himself, his wife Megan and their one-year-old son.

A source told the Daily Mail : “Jordan has been shocked by the level of abuse he has received since the match. He is determined to do whatever it takes to make sure his family is kept safe.”

Bodyguards were placed outside his £2.5million house last week while the company have advised Pickford to say off social media.

Merseyside Police revealed that they were investigating tweets aimed at the Everton goalkeeper last week.

Jurgen Klopp was left furious with Pickford’s first-half tackle after the Merseyside derby, telling BT Sport: "The injury of Virgil van Dijk, that was pretty early in the game.

"I didn't see it back, but it took a while. Obviously, it was not too big, the offside. And then Pickford kicks him completely out of the [game].

"It didn't see it back. I saw it for the first time in the dressing room. You, maybe, can say more about this. I have to watch it back.

“The only situation I saw back, only briefly, in the dressing room was the Henderson goal and the pass with Sadio.

"And I didn't see offside, sorry. Maybe somebody will explain it to me. The picture I saw, it was not offside. But it was offside because somebody decided it."

It comes as Reds goalkeeper Adrian was the latest player to slam Pickford for his tackle on van Djik.
