Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton in the Merseyside derby in the Premier League with Mohamed Salah being left on the bench.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been criticised for not bringing Mohamed Salah off the bench against Everton as the Reds were held to a 0-0 draw. Liverpool will now have to wait to see what happens when Manchester City play Burnley tomorrow to see if they can win the title in their midweek clash with Crystal Palace.

Liverpool looked rusty and were lucky not to lose to Everton with Tom Davies hitting the post and Dominic Calvert-Lewin putting a header wide.

Klopp did not bring on Salah though despite making all five substitutions.

And Liverpool fans could not understand why the Egyptian was not brought on to play any part.

One said: “Jurgen Klopp is a disgrace. He starts keita, minamino and firmino, then takes them off and brings on even more.

“He can't even get salah or robertson fit after 4 months, refuses to bring salah on and uses bad tactics KLOPP OUT!!!”

Another added: “Not subbing on salah was klopp mistake”.

A third said: “Excuse me, Juergen Klopp where is Salah? #EVELIV.”

One more exclaimed: “Klopp didn't play Salah. I'm mad.”

Liverpool are still miles clear of closest challengers Manchester City in the Premier League as they look to win their first title since 1990.

Before the match Klopp explained Salah had a little issue he was dealing with despite being on the bench at Goodison Park.

Andy Robertson was also left out because of a slight injury.

Klopp explained: “There are different reasons for the line-up.

“It’s a really special time and in this time, after four weeks’ pre-season and preparation, we cannot ignore that we play again on Wednesday. I just can’t. It’s not the last game of the season, so I have to think a little bit about it.

“Some players couldn’t train in the last week – they trained, but not with the team – like Mo and Robbo, but yesterday they were in training and both looked really good. That’s why Mo is in the squad, Robbo not yet but on Wednesday [he will be] again.

“For Robbo, it was better to have a proper session today and then be in for Wednesday, and for Mo it is the right thing to do it like this.”

Liverpool will win the title if City beat Burnley tomorrow, they defeat Crystal Palace on Wednesday and then Chelsea surprise Pep Guardiola’s side on Thursday.
