The Premier League has announced two positive coronavirus tests just days before the top flight is due to restart.

The Premier League have confirmed two positive coronavirus tests from different clubs just days ahead of the top flight restarting. The eighth round saw 1,200 tests undertaken across all 20 teams.

The first seven rounds of COVID-19 testing saw 14 positives and 7,474 negatives.

The Premier League is set to restart on Wednesday with two matches as Aston Villa face Sheffield United and Manchester City take on Arsenal.

The identity of those who tested positive has been kept confidential but if they are players they will be ruled out of upcoming matches for their clubs as they will need to self-isolate.

Norwich have since announced one of their stars has tested positive.

Players and staff were tested on June 11 and 12.

A statement on Norwich’s website read: “Norwich City can confirm that one of its players has returned a positive test result following the recent round of COVID-19 testing.

"In line with the Premier League’s protocols, the player will now self-isolate for a period of seven days before being tested again at a later date.

"The player must return a negative test result before being able to resume training.

"The club will not name the player in question and asks that his request for privacy and confidentiality are respected at this time.”

The Premier League will look very different when it returns on Wednesday evening with matches being played behind closed doors.

Teams will also be allowed larger squads and five substitues instead of three.

That's because teams will be playing at least two matches a week from now until the end of the season.

The BBC will show two Premier League matches for the first time ever as well including Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace and Everton vs Norwich.
