Carlo Ancelotti is already beginning to draw up plans for the summer transfer market, despite the fact that COVID-19 could have a huge say on their business. Everton are keen to secure the return of European football at Goodison Park, something that will allow them to attract more players.

Despite a need for reinforcements following the departure of Marco Silva, Ancelotti did not sign anybody in January due to a lack of finances.

Now the Italian is ready to strike in the market and has a clear understanding of what he wants.

According to The Athletic, Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes is on the club's radar.

Scouts identified Gabriel this season while starting in Ligue 1.

He has pace to burn and can play as a sweeper at the heart of defence.

The Brazilian is seen as a potential partner for Mason Holgate.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with the 22-year-old.

But he's a player that Everton are set on signing and have been for three months.

The second player that Ancelotti wants is a central midfield who can transform defence into attack.

It's an area where Everton have been lacking this season, particularly in the absence of Andre Gomes.

The former Barcelona man is back in the side now but may need time to find his feet again after returning from his horrific ankle fracture and dislocation sustained last November against Tottenham.

New signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin has also had an injury-ridden campaign to forget.

One player that is being targeted according to the report is Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Dane has just one year left on his Saints contract and could be available on the cheap.

Tottenham are also keen on Hojbjerg though and given his importance to Ralph Hasenhuttl, Southampton will be desperate to tie him down to a new deal.

Everton currently sit 12th in the table with nine matches left to play in the Premier League.
