Atletico Madrid eyeing Mauricio Pochettino/Former Spurs boss keen to return to Premier League – Telegraph

As per a report from the Telegraph, former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is viewed as a potential replacement for Diego Simeone by Atletico Madrid.

Struggling Spurs

After surprising the masses in making it all the way to the Champions League final last season, Spurs subsequently endured a nightmare start to the new campaign.

The north Londoners notched just 3 wins from their opening 12 fixtures, a run which left them sitting in a lowly 14th in the Premier League table in mid-November.

Elsewhere, the Lilywhites were also ousted from the League Cup by League Two outfit Colchester, and fell to an absolutely embarrassing 7-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Poch sacked

As such, despite having long been regarded as one of the finest tacticians in England, rumours inevitably began to mount that Mauricio Pochettino was inching towards the Spurs exit door.

Therefore, on the back of a 1-1 stalemate at home to Sheffield United, it came as little surprise when an official announcement was forthcoming on the 19th of November, confirming that the Tottenham hierarchy had come to the decision to part ways with their long-time boss.

Atletico keen

As per the aforementioned report from the Telegraph, though, Pochettino may not remain out of work for too long.

This comes amid claims that one of European football's heavyweights are expressing an interest in the Argentine's services.

The outfit in question? Atletico Madrid.

Los Rojiblancos have endured a tough campaign to this point, with questions starting to be asked of long-time boss Diego Simeone.

As such, it is claimed that, should the board at the Wanda Metropolitano opt to part ways with Simeone come the summer, Pochettino is viewed as a prime target to replace his fellow countryman.

Crucially, though, it is added that the former Spurs boss himself would prefer a return to England, over Spain.

The most logical potential landing spot for Pochettino in the Premier League appears to be Manchester United, as the Red Devils continue to stutter under the guidance of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
