Liverpool have confirmed Nike are their new kit manufacturers as a huge deal has been announced, which sees their partnership with New Balance come to an end.

Nike’s lucrative contract with the Premier League leaders is believed to be worth a whopping £70m a year.

That equates to over 15 per cent of the club’s current turnover, and the partnership will span over a number of years moving forward.

The length of the deal has not been divulged by Liverpool, but it will certainly bolster their finances.

New Balance were willing to match Nike’s bid, however, the club won the rights to snub their current kit providers, who have been making their shirts since 2015, in favour of the mega brand.

While New Balance’s kits have been popular among Reds supporters, the major pull Nike have around the world convinced Liverpool to make the change.

The Nike partnership will come into effect on June 1, 2020.

Billy Hogan, LFC’s managing director and chief commercial officer, said: “Our iconic kit is a key part of our history and identity. We welcome Nike into the LFC family as our new official kit supplier and expect them to be an incredible partner for the club, both at home and globally as we continue to expand our fanbase.

"As a brand, Nike reflects our ambitions for growth, and we look forward to working with them to bring fans new and exciting products.

"We’d like to thank New Balance for their support over the last few years and wish them well for the future.”

Nike will supply Liverpool’s playing, training and travel wear for the men’s, women’s and academy squads.

"We look forward to partnering with them to serve players and supporters with Nike innovation and design.”
