Premier League clubs will be eager to do business during the January transfer window to help bolster their respective squads. Express Sport takes a look at every team’s ideal signing before the market opens next week.

Transfer deals are high on the agenda of plenty of Premier League chiefs with the January window set to open in less than a week. Spending in the winter isn’t always ideal with prime targets unavailable and prices skyrocketing, but a range of clubs could do with investment to help meet their objectives in the second half of the 2019/20 campaign.

Reigning champions Manchester City could splash the cash on a much-needed defender despite Pep Guardiola’s insistence they’re in for a quiet start to 2020.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have plenty of money in the bank following a summer of enforced inactivity and Frank Lampard has hinted deals could happen in west London.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has quietened his doubters at Old Trafford and may now use his kitty to continue remodelling the team he inherited from Jose Mourinho.

Express Sport are on hand to identify every Premier League club’s ideal signing ahead of the January transfer window with fans eagerly anticipating a month of twists and turns in the market.

Arsenal - Jonathan Tah

Arsenal’s defensive problems have been well documented and finding a solution is crucial. William Saliba will arrive at the Emirates next summer and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah would be the ideal partner for the Frenchman at the back.

Aston Villa - Ollie Watkins

Aston Villa might have to sell before they can even think about buying anyone in January but Dean Smith should still be looking at Ollie Watkins. The former Exeter striker has enjoyed a strong season at Brentford and should take another step up in his stride.

Bournemouth - Juan Foyth

Bournemouth’s chances of snaring a ready-made replacement for in-demand Nathan Ake during the January transfer window are limited given a lack of availability of suitable targets. However, they could do a lot worse than loaning in Juan Foyth from Tottenham for the remainder of the campaign.

Brighton - Said Benrahma

Brighton fans are generally pleased with the Seagulls’ progress under Graham Potter but there are concerns over a lack of creativity. Said Benrahma has done the business for Brentford in the Championship, though, and could slot in nicely to provide some ammunition for former team-mate Neal Maupay.

Burnley - Jarrod Bowen

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is often accused of being too one dimensional and could do with an attacker to help shake things up. The gravel-voiced gaffer should offload never-in-favour Matej Vydra and replace him with Hull hotshot Jarrod Bowen.

Chelsea - Nathan Ake

Frank Lampard will have plenty of time to go after the likes of Jadon Sancho next summer and needs to focus on defence for now. Chelsea have cash to spend after their summer ban and ought to chuck some of it Bournemouth’s way to re-sign centre-back Nathan Ake before his ï¿¡40m release clause expires.

Crystal Palace - Olivier Giroud

Chelsea’s forgotten man wants out and is desperately in need of game time with his place in France’s Euro 2020 squad is at stake. Roy Hodgson could do with Olivier Giroud’s goals in a short-term deal which would allow the hitman to stay in London.

Everton - Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Everton are short of bodies in midfield and a move for Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek could help all three parties. The Toffees require some quality, Loftus-Cheek needs minutes and the Blues can later reap the rewards of him getting back on track.

Leicester - Myron Boadu

Whisper it quietly, but Jamie Vardy won’t be at the King Power Stadium forever. Bringing in prolific AZ Alkmaar prodigy Myron Boadu might work perfectly for Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester as they target a place in the top four.

Liverpool - Timo Werner

What do you buy Jurgen Klopp for Christmas given the Liverpool boss is a man who almost has everything? One of the players understood to be on his shopping list - RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

Manchester City - Caglar Soyuncu

Manchester City’s failure to raid Leicester for one centre-back in the form of Harry Maguire has cost them this season. Pep Guardiola ought to snap up Leicester’s Caglar Soyuncu to replace the departed Vincent Kompany and bolster his shaky backline.

Manchester United - Erling Braut Haaland

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could do with a focal point in attack and countryman Erling Braut Haaland fits the bill. Manchester United are keen on the Red Bull Salzburg marksman and have the funds available to do a mid-season deal.

Newcastle - Mason Greenwood

If Manchester United add to their forward ranks, Mason Greenwood could be let out on loan to continue his rapid development. Steve Bruce would be wise to ask his old club for a favour and take the prospect up to Newcastle to take some pressure off Joelinton’s shoulders.

Norwich - Pontus Jansson

Norwich have the Premier League’s joint-leakiest defence with more than two goals conceded per game to plunge the Canaries into the relegation mire. Daniel Farke has little hope of recruiting from a team in a better position, so should raid Brentford for the ever-impressive Pontus Jansson.

Sheffield United - Bradley Dack

Sheffield United are on course to secure Premier League survival and Chris Wilder should be backed with the money to land Bradley Dack. The Blackburn playmaker would fit in well with Wilder’s philosophy and help them kick on in the new year.

Southampton - Rhian Brewster

Southampton looked like they might be in for a torturous season after the 9-0 defeat to Leicester but a Danny Ings has since led a revival. Saints can’t solely rely on Ings, though, so recruiting young and hungry Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster on loan could be just the ticket.

Tottenham - Moussa Dembele

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho needs backup for Harry Kane and Moussa Dembele has the ability to step up. Lyon’s Champions League elimination gives Spurs the perfect excuse to strike for the former Fulham and Celtic ace.

Watford - Alfredo Morelos

Watford may go into Christmas off the back of a win over Manchester United but the bottom-of-the-table side need a goalscorer. Alfredo Morelos is a hothead, but he can raise his game and translate his form for Rangers into Premier League goals.

West Ham - Granit Xhaka

Arsenal fans would happily wave goodbye to their former captain Granit Xhaka but Manuel Pellegrini might just welcome home with open arms. The Swiss international can play at West Ham’s level and be an improvement on what Pellegrini currently has at his disposal in deep-lying midfield.

Wolves - James Tarkowski

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is doing a sterling job at Molineux but is short of depth in defence. Signing Burnley’s James Tarkowski wouldn’t be cheap but he’d offer Wolves another excellent option at the back.
