Carlisle brush aside Dulwich Hamlet to avoid FA Cup shock

Dulwich Hamlet’s FA Cup dream was brought to an end after a comprehensive 4-1 defeat to League Two Carlisle United.

Harry McKirdy was the main man for the Cumbrians, setting up Olufela Olomola’s opening goal and scoring the second and fourth himself.

Christian Smith pulled one back for Hamlet, but Mike Jones put the game to bed with a thunderous strike from 25 yards.

The visitors started the brightest, with Marvin McCoy forced to clear Olomola’s shot off the line in the seventh minute.

But Olomola was not to be denied a minute later, finishing from close range after McKirdy broke clear down the left following a Dulwich corner.

Dulwich responded well but struggled to create any clear openings – McCoy coming closest when his rasping shot clipped the bar in the 27th minute.

But McKirdy struck in the 37th minute, finishing Gethin Jones’ cross from the right.

Dulwich pulled one back shortly after half-time, Smith heading home from Jeffrey Monakana’s free-kick.

But six minutes later, Jones’ rocket re-established the two-goal cushion.

Byron Webster stabbed wide from close range and McKirdy was denied by fingertips as Carlisle pressed for the fourth.

And McKirdy delivered it with four minutes to go, finishing after he was set away down the left.
