Man Utd have been given a huge boost in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho

MANCHESTER UNITED have been given a much-needed boost in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho - after Borussia Dortmund all-but accepted defeat in holding onto him.

Jorg Heinrich, assistant manager at the Bundesliga side, has admitted one day they will be powerless to cling on to the England sensation.

Heinrich says Dortmund is a great place to develop at a high rate, but the lure of the "very big clubs" will be impossible to fight, echoing the sentiments of sporting director Michael Zorc.

The German No2 revealed: "Jadon can become one of the best players in Europe, or even the world.

"He should know Dortmund is an excellent place for young players to play consistently and to develop on a very, very high level.

"It won't be easy to keep him at Dortmund. We hope he plays one or two seasons longer.

"But we all know very, very big clubs with a lot of money want to have him in their team."

Sancho, 19, quit Manchester City in 2017 to try his hand on the continent, in what was then a shock departure.

But his rapid rise to prominence has seen a hoard of young British players head to Germany in a bid to replicate his success.

Since leaving England, Sancho burst into the Dortmund first-team - with his form almost immediately sparking talk of an international call-up.

The teenager made his international debut last year, aged just 18, and has already earned eight caps - scoring twice.

Man Utd have long been after Sancho and are thought to be saving all their money this season to launch an audacious £150million swoop next summer.

The club are in desperate need of attacking help as their strikers struggle to find the net - scoring more than one goal in a single game just once this term.

United's desperation could force them into the market in January, but United are tipped to land the free signing of Juventus outcast Mario Mandzukic.

That would allow them to hoard their transfer funds for a swoop next summer, with Dortmund aware they face an increasingly tough battle to keep hold of their star man.
