Antoniazzi strike helps Cove Rangers maintain unbeaten start

Cove Rangers preserved their unbeaten start to Scottish League Two with a 3-0 home win over Annan.

The Highland League champions broke the deadlock on the half-hour when Daniel Higgins fired high into the net after wonderful work by Christian Antoniazzi.

They doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when Antoniazzi shot low into the corner of the net.

Former Rangers midfielder Fraser Aird, signed this week after leaving Dundee United, came off the bench to add a third with eight minutes left to wrap up the points.

A sixth successive win kept them three points clear of Edinburgh City, who beat Queen’s Park 2-1 at home for a fourth successive win.

Scott Shepherd pounced from close range in the 57th minute and Alex Harris (62) netted for the third game in a row.

Tommy Block (77) pulled a goal back but Edinburgh held on to maintain their 100 per cent record at Ainslie Park this term.

Cowdenbeath remain in third place courtesy of a 1-0 home victory over Albion.

Fraser Mullen put the Blue Brazil in front eight minutes before half-time from the penalty spot, after Sean Fagan was penalised for handball, to take his tally to five goals in six games.

Brechin climbed off the bottom following a 2-1 win over Elgin – their first at home this season.

Paul McManus (47) put Brechin ahead but Shane Sutherland levelled just before the hour with a curler into the far corner for his 13th goal of the season.

However, Kieran Inglis struck in stoppage time to help Brechin snap a three-game losing streak as Elgin remain winless on their travels.

Sean Heaver’s 87th-minute equaliser cancelled out Thomas Halleran’s 32nd-minute opener as Stenhousemuir snatched a 1-1 draw at Stirling, who drop to the bottom.
