Barcelona fans blast 'clueless' Ernesto Valverde after shock Granada defeat
Barcelona fans have taken their frustration out on Ernesto Valverde

Granada inflicted Barcelona's second league defeat of the season on them this evening, shocking the La Liga champions 2-0.

Lionel Messi started on the bench as he battles to fully recover from a calf injury which has affected him since pre-season.

Valverde brought the Argentinian on at half-time along with 16-year-old Ansu Fati after Granada took a lead into the break.

But the Barcelona duo couldn't change the game as the underdogs scored from the penalty spot after the hour-mark.

Valverde has since received a wealth of criticism from fans, who believe Messi is carrying the team.

"As long as Valverde is in charge it’ll be a team completely reliant on Messi’s brilliance," one said.

"Valverde has finished us," one fan wrote.

"I remember when watching Barça used to be one of the highlights of my week and now it’s 90 minutes of frustration. F*** Valverde," said one.

"What more does it take to sack Valverde? #ValverdeOut," one added.

"F*** Valverde man, turning Griezmann to the next Coutinho, unforgivable, turned my club to s*** single handedly," a fourth wrote.

"What is this board seeing in Valverde that we all are not seeing. Dude is f****** clueless," one added.

"At this point I'd prefer Mourinho as interim over Valverde. That's how bad it is," said another.

After tonight's result, Granada are now top of La Liga on goal difference.

And before the clash, Valverde admitted he wasn't taking the opposition lightly.

"Granada are having a good start, the teams who have just come up have a lot of enthusiasm and positive inertia because of their promotion," he told reporters.

"Their energy is clear, they press you and pressure you and the dynamic is good.

"It's a tough game, we're obliged (to win) after not having won two in a row away and we want to win.

"Away from home we haven't achieved good results, we're not doing so well and we hope to change that dynamic.

"In these types of grounds are where league titles are played for."
