Stevenage take useful point at Forest Green

Struggling Stevenage picked up a useful point with a goalless draw at high-flying Forest Green.
Searching for a first win of the season, Boro started on the front foot as Luther James-Wildin arrowed the ball across the box for Jason Cowley to flick towards the bottom corner, but alert goalkeeper Lewis Thomas touched the ball wide.
Thomas palmed away a strike from former Forest Green striker Kurtis Guthrie as Mark Sampson’s bottom-of-the-table side cranked up the pressure.
Rovers had Liam Kitching to thank for a clearance off the line in the 51st minute – the former Leeds defender sticking out a leg to divert a towering Charlie Carter header. From the resulting corner, the Forest Green keeper showed sharp reflexes to block Guthrie’s point-blank stab.
Forest Green loanee Kyle Taylor received a second yellow card with four minutes remaining for a foul on Michael Timlin.
Deep into stoppage-time, Ben Kennedy fluffed his lines for Stevenage with only Thomas to beat.
