Liverpool are hoping to land Fabian Ruiz in the coming transfer windows

LIVERPOOL are set to do battle with Real Madrid and Barcelona for Napoli star Fabian Ruiz.

Ruiz, 23, has popped up on the radars of a host of European giants after a phenomenal breakout season at Napoli last season.

The Spanish No8 has been instrumental in much of the Serie A side's success recently - including the 2-0 win over Liverpool on Tuesday.

Ruiz looked dangerous all game in the Champions League curtain-raiser and forced Reds stopper Adrian into a pair of fine saves in the first-half alone.

After 14 years at Real Betis, Napoli activated Ruiz's ï¿¡27million buyout clause last year.

Through 20 starts in Serie A, the two-cap Spain international scored five goals and provided four assists.

Ever since he burst onto the scene, Real Madrid have interested in a move to bring Ruiz back to Spain.

Barcelona are also keeping tabs but may opt to avoid signing another young midfielder after signing Frenkie De Jong earlier in 2019.

Now Liverpool are thought to be in the running to make a move in January as his stock continues to rise.

But for now the Reds will be forced to go up against the playmaker extraordinaire in the Champions League one more time.

After losing 2-0 in Italy, Liverpool will host Napoli at Anfield on November 27 in the fifth group game.

Dries Mertens and Fernando Llorente both scored in the final ten minutes of the game in Naples - with the usually reliable Andrew Robertson and Virgil van Dijk making key errors.

Robertson gave away the 82nd-minute penalty while Van Dijk gifted Llorente the game-clincher in added time.
