HARRY MAGUIRE has been christened "Dennis The Menace" by his new pals at Manchester United.

The £85million defender was welcomed to the Old Trafford dressing room by a squad who were "buzzing" by his acquisition.

Old Trafford new boy Harry Maguire has been likened to long-running comic-book character Dennis the Menace

A source told The Sun on Sunday: "The lads are absolutely delighted Harry has signed.

"They've nicknamed him Dennis the Menace because they think he looks like him.

"The English boys know him from the England team and they're buzzing.

They think he is exactly what the squad needed.

"Maguire is a huge presence and will bring additional confidence to the team.

"Even the other centre- backs are feeling OK about the purchase. They know it's a long, hard season and they will all get chances to play."

Manchester United face Chelsea today and the source added: "The squad is very united.

'MASSIVE LIFT'

"They had a good pre-season and are excited to kick off against Chelsea.

"They want to put in a good performance at home to get the fans onside.

"The target within the club is always to win a trophy and they think Harry will give them a massive lift towards that."

Maguire, 26, joined from Leicester on a six-year contract.

He is the second most expensive signing in Premier League history after new team-mate Paul Pogba (£89m).

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Maguire was always top choice — ahead of the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Kalidou Koulibaly.

He said: "I more or less made my mind up when we played Leicester that if if was possible to get him, we should get him.

"Harry is going to be great for this club and was always my No 1 target. He is so composed on the ball and gives the team another dimension.

"He is a leader, an established international, a goal threat and a very, very good defender."
