Fernando Llorente set for summer Tottenham exit – Mail

As per a report from the Daily Mail, Fernando Llorente is set to depart Tottenham over the coming months.

Spurs spell

Llorente, now 34, made the move to north London 2 years ago, on the back of an impressive stint with Swansea City.

After acting as the spearhead of the Swans' attack, though, the Spaniard has since largely-struggled for game-time with Spurs.

With Harry Kane to contend with for a spot in Mauricio Pochettino's attack, Llorente has managed just 7 Premier League starts over the course of his two seasons in the English capital.

This past season did prove more fruitful than last, however, with the veteran having racked up 11 starts across all competitions, including 6 in the league.

And Llorente's none-too-shabby haul of 8 goals and 5 assists, a number of which came at absolutely crucial moments for Pochettino's men, have since seen the former Juventus man go on to establish himself as a firm fan favourite among the Tottenham faithful.

Llorente moving on

As such, news emerging this evening that Llorente looks set for an imminent departure will no doubt be met with disappointment on the part of large sections of the Spurs faithful.

As per the aforementioned report from the Mail, the board of the north Londoners have allowed the deadline to renew their powerful hitman's contract to pass.

Spurs had the option to extend Llorente's deal by a further 12 months.

However, after deciding against activating their option to do so, the former Spanish international is set to depart the club on a free transfer.

Tottenham's Champions League final meeting with Liverpool at the beginning of next month will therefore act as a sendoff for Llorente.
