MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly been knocked back in their bid to lure Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala to Old Trafford in the summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to be desperate to bolster his attack at the end of the season as he targets a Premier League title tilt in his first full season in charge.

The Red Devils were quoted £68million by Inter Milan in March for the signing of Argentinian international Icardi.

And they have also been linked with a £120m move for the ex-Sampdoria striker's compatriot Dybala - who has netted 10 goals in 39 games for Juventus this campaign.

But United look to have been dealt a blow in their quest to nab the pair, with agent Giovanni Branchini revealing the duo could be used in a swap deal between Inter and the Old Lady.

Speaking to Tuttosport, he said: "Dybala? Yes, I think his goodbye is possible this time.

"I don't think he is happy and I don't think Juve are happy this season.

"The exchange with Icardi is not a fantasy because everyone would have the chance to benefit from an exchange of this kind."

Icardi was stripped of the captaincy at the San Siro in February following a contract dispute between his wife and agent Wanda and the Nerazzurri.

Branchini also stated that James Rodriguez could move to Serie A when his loan spell finishes at Bayern Munich, with Diego Costa a potential signing for Napoli should Lorenzo Insigne depart.

He added: "James Rodriguez? He could come to Italy. A player like him would be useful for everyone, to all those who want an attacking midfielder or second striker of great quality.

"Insigne to leave Napoli? Probably yes. For Napoli, it is essential that Koulibaly remains and if Insigne leaves, an important player could arrive, like Diego Costa."
