Robinson accepts Oxford got lucky against Coventry

Oxford manager Karl Robinson considered his side to be slightly fortunate after they eased their relegation worries with a 1-0 victory at Coventry.
The U’s moved four points clear of the relegation zone thanks to Curtis Nelson’s 57th-minute header, although Robinson believed it was a poor performance from his team.
He said: “We weren’t at our best. We got away with some things in the first half and first couple of minutes so we changed a few things and just shifted a few people.
“I don’t think it is something we deserved, but how many times have I moaned to you this year about us not getting what we’ve deserved in the other way.
“A scrappy goal, a scrappy performance but a performance of men. They’re a very young team. We had four loan players starting and their attitude was unbelievable, just to show how much it really means to them as well.
“If you keep playing like that you won’t win. When we would lose, I said if you play well then the results would turn. I had tremendous belief in that and the players can’t come off our beliefs.
“I’m not being critical, I’m just saying that there’s more, and I know there is more so I apologise for that. I’m over the moon inside and I am happy because it’s another win and somebody said the league table looks really good, but it’s still embarrassing for me.
“We’ve got three big games – Wycombe, Walsall and Wimbledon – so massive games now. Big, big games that we can really put our foot down or really take a hit, and I’d much rather it be the first one.”
Coventry boss Mark Robins was left feeling a little deflated after the Sky Blues failed to capitalise on their opportunity to move into the play-off places.
Despite their ongoing problems behind the scenes, Coventry could have climbed into sixth with a win but Robins’ side found themselves being thwarted by a stubborn Oxford outfit.
Robins said: “They gained a little bit of a foothold although they did not create a great deal in the first half.
“Their goalkeeper then made a really good save in the first few minutes of the second half, and from then on we did not create enough.
“They came with a game plan which was to frustrate us and to break up the play when we were on top.
“They managed to slow things down a bit but at the end of the day, that is the other team’s prerogative – to try and get something out of the game.
“Them coming out with the three points is bitterly disappointing for us, and they will be delighted with it because they have got clear of trouble.”
