Lincoln extend League Two lead with draw at Mansfield

John Akinde’s second-half penalty rescued a point for Sky Bet League Two leaders Lincoln in a 1-1 draw at Mansfield.
The Imps had to dig deep to extend their lead at the top to six points, fighting back from conceding a fourth-minute Krystian Pearce goal.
The point for Town sees them climb into the final automatic promotion place on goal difference.
Lincoln made the worst possible start when home skipper Pearce rose to head home Jorge Grant’s corner.
The goal lifted the Stags but a second was not forthcoming despite some concerted pressure, and Mansfield’s Mal Benning was forced to hook a Danny Rowe effort away.
Bruno Andrade’s 20-yard shot was comfortably saved by home goalkeeper Conrad Logan, before Tyler Walker fluffed an effort when well placed at the other end, shanking CJ Hamilton’s pass well wide.
Matt Gilks was called upon to save well from Walker, who ran on to a pass over the top, while Harry Anderson should have levelled for City just before the hour mark when an Andrade cross was spilled by Logan but the winger took an air-shot with the goal gaping.
City were handed a lifeline after 75 minutes when Anderson was taken out by Logan as he latched on to a pass from substitute Tom Pett, and Akinde made no mistake from the spot.
Pearce’s header was saved by Gilks, while Logan denied Andrade at the other end in the latter stages.
