TOTTENHAM are finally ready to plunge into the transfer market this summer by signing as many as five new players.

Mauricio Pochettino has been forced to keep the club competing at home and in Europe despite failing to bring in any new faces in the past two transfer windows.

But the Mail report that chairman Daniel Levy is at last about to release shackles and provide money for a major overhaul of the Tottenham squad.

That that could see the club revive their interest in signing Jack Grealish having failed to secure a deal with Aston Villa last season.

Spurs have also been tracking the highly-rated Hull star Jarrod Bowen over the past season and they are hopeful of winning the race for his signature.

But though the club are willing to bring new players in, it also seems likely they could lost two of their biggest stars.

It is claimed that Tottenham are now resigned to the fact defender Toby Alderweireld and midfielder Christian Eriksen are looking to leave over the close season.

Manchester United have been keen on signing Alderweireld for the past 18 months but baulked at spending as much as £40m to sign someone of his age.

Yet there is now a clause in a contract that allows him to be bought for £26million, and even aged 30 that represents good value for a player regarded as one of the best defenders in Europe.

United could return to make another effort to take the Belgian to Old Trafford, while a host of other top sides on the continent would also be happy to sign him.

Eriksen is about to enter the final year of his contract in North London and talks over extending that deal have not found any agreement.

Real Madrid have been interested in the Dane in the past, while other sides across Europe have also made their interest known.

And if the 27-year-old does not reach agreement soon on a new contract, Tottenham may be forced to take the decision to sell him now rather than lose him on a free in a year's time.

While Levy is prepared to finally give his backing to Pochettino to refresh his squad, there is not an endless pot of money to use.

And that could mean Spurs are unable to follow through on their long-standing interest in Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha, who is now rated around £70m and could be out of Pochettino's price range.

It is thought Spurs will be on the hunt for a new left-back, a defender to replace Alderweireld and a centre-forward to provide much-needed support for Harry Kane.

Carlos Soler of Valencia has been watched this season - and it is claimed there is also interest in Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic.

But persuading the striker to accept an understudy role to Kane may be a difficult proposition.
