Liverpool's Karius files claim against Bestikas after not being paid

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has reported his loan club, Besiktas, to FIFA having allegedly not received wages dating back four months.

FIFA told ESPN on Wednesday that they "have a received a claim from the player Loris Karius against the club Besiktas."

Earlier on Wednesday, German outlet Bild reported that Karius had taken legal action against the club on Feb. 20. The paper said that Besiktas have already missed one deadline which could result into a points deduction of or a potential ban from international competitions.

FIFA, world football's governing body, said it could not "provide any further comments" relating to the nature of the player's complaint.

ESPN sources have said that Karius, who is on loan at Besiktas until 2020, will be paid and that Liverpool are in constant communication with the player -- but have no plans to recall the German from his loan spell.

Besiktas did not comment on the situation when approached by ESPN.

The former Mainz goalkeeper has made 26 appearances for Besiktas since heading to Turkey last summer. But, with only five clean sheets in 21 league matches, his new career away from the Premier League spotlight has proven to be difficult.

Following Besiktas' 3-2 win over Konyaspor on Sunday, Karius was criticised by coach Senol Gunes, who claimed the German "was at fault for the goals he conceded."

He added: "Karius has gone a bit stagnant. Something is wrong with his electricity, motivation, enthusiasm for the game."
