MANCHESTER UNITED star Paul Pogba made a phone call to Juventus in an attempt to engineer a move away from Old Trafford, according to reports.

Manchester United star Pogba is wanted by Juventus, who would love to bring the France international back to Turin.

The World Cup winner quit Old Trafford for Juventus back in 2012 and, during his four years in Italy, helped the club win four Scudettos in succession.

He then returned to Manchester United in the summer of 2016 for a then world-record fee of £89million but, nearly three years on, rumours of a move to Turin are refusing to go away.

Paul Pogba was struggling for form earlier this season under Jose Mourinho.

The 25-year-old had a rocky relationship with the former United manager, with Mourinho appearing to loath the player’s life outside of football.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, he has been resurgent.

The United star has been playing with a swagger ever since Mourinho was sacked back in December.

But Italian newspaper Tuttosport say that, despite Mourinho’s exit, the United star is still eager to leave Old Trafford behind.

It is claimed he made a phone call to Juventus in January admitting that he is eager to return.

However, Juventus ultimately opted against pursuing their former midfielder.

Tuttosport say, though, that the Serie A giants could use Douglas Costa as a bargaining tool in any potential negotiations.

United reportedly want to sign Costa when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign.

Juventus, as things stand, are reluctant to lose the Brazil international.

But they could change their mind if it means luring Pogba away from United and back to Italian football.

Meanwhile, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri recently labelled the prospect of Pogba returning as a ‘fantasy’.

"Oh my... you [journalists] have such fantasies," the Juventus head coach said when asked about the United midfielder.

"I think that a return of Pogba to Juventus is very, very unlikely.

"I will not deceive myself, I think it will be really hard to see Pogba come back."
