MANCHESTER UNITED could face a Uefa probe after Angel Di Maria was pelted by missiles.

Home fans lobbed bottles at the former Old Trafford winger as United’s Champions League hopes were left hanging by a thread.

Argie star Di Maria, who set up both PSG goals, tried to make light of the incident by picking up a beer bottle and pretending to take a swig from it.

But Uefa chiefs are sure to demand answers from United over the shameful scenes.

Paul Pogba saw red for a second caution late on as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 11-mach unbeaten run came to an end. Former United star Rio Ferdinand said: “This is a  reality check but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

“It’s something they’ll have to learn from and now we’ll see the reaction.

“In his tenure this would be a moment he’s preparing for when they lost and now it’s how they react.

“Ole’s been on a phenomenal run and rejuvenated this place but this was a level up from the Premier League.

“We’ve seen some great attacking play in recent weeks but today we didn’t see any of that.

“That PSG team, without two of their best attacking players, coasted through the second half and put the game to bed and I think the tie, too.”

Di Maria supplied the corner for Presnel Kimpembe’s headed opener and then his pinpoint centre found Kylian Mbappe for the second.

PSG flier Di Maria appeared to goad the United supporters after the first goal.

TV cameras showed the Paris players celebrating by the touchline as Di Maria stared in the direction of the home fans.

He could then be seen shouting at them and appeared to say “f*** off” as well as “puta” — the Spanish word for “b****”.

The 2-0 defeat was the first time United have lost a European tie at home by more than one goal.

Former United defender Phil Neville said: “You could feel the first goal coming, it was almost as if United were waiting to concede a goal.

“It was a brilliant ball into the box from Di Maria.

“It has been the first game I’ve seen under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer where we haven’t seen floods and floods of attack.”

Ferdinand claimed frustration got Pogba sent off.

He said: “Pogba didn’t deal with being man-marked and he has to work it out. Today he got frustrated and sent off.”

Mbappe said: “It’s a good result but we’re  frustrated because I could have scored a third and that would have finished it off.

“I’ll get myself ready to score another goal in the return leg.”
