Newport held to drab draw by Port Vale

Newport failed to build on their FA Cup heroics as they played out a drab 0-0 draw with Port Vale.
Michael Flynn’s men stunned Middlesbrough with a late equaliser on Saturday but failed to find a way past the struggling Valiants at Rodney Parade.
Padraig Amond had an early chance to break the deadlock after he was picked out by Newport goalkeeper Nick Townsend, but his lob was clawed away from the top corner by Scott Brown.
At the other end, Manny Oyeleke tricked his way past three Exiles players before shooting through the legs of Mark O’Brien, but Townsend saved and they scrambled the ball away.
Danny Elliott came on and fired just over three minutes into the second-half, while fellow substitute Keanu Marsh-Brown blazed over the Vale goal.
James Gibbons was shown a straight red card with five minutes to go after a studs-up challenge on Dan Butler, but Vale held on for the draw.
The stalemate leaves Newport seven points off the play-offs, but the point could prove important for Port Vale, who are six points clear of the relegation zone.
