ESPN  say a deal has been completed for the Frenchman, 16, who played in some friendlies for the under-17 side in Berlin last year.

Liverpool  were not expected to be active during the January transfer window but this deal is one for the future.

They have also been linked with German striker Timo Werner as his contract at RB Leipzig has less than 18 months left to run.

The Bundesliga side are set to offer hi a double-your-money deal that includes a clause that means he can leave for £60million.

However, it is more likely that players will leave the club in the winter window.

Manager Jurgen Klopp revealed Ben Woodburn could be loaned out again after he returned from a spell with Sheffield United.

"Ben Woodburn is an outstanding talent, still pretty much a kid, and I am happy to see him here, running around, completely fit and really settled in the squad,” he said.

"In the summer, I think he lost a bit of patience and it was really long he was already with us.

"The first-team situation didn't really change and then you maybe - and it's normal and can happen - lose patience.

"Then you have a rather average experience at another club and you come back and see here everything is still like it was before.

"Now he trained [on Friday] for the first time so I think if something happens with a loan, then it will happen at the end of the week.

"We will really try to give him as many sessions as possible so if he goes somewhere, he is really in a good situation."

Klopp is also hoping to welcome back Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from injury ahead of schedule.

The midfielder posted an encouraging video on social media showing him with the ball at his feet, although the German has warned fans not to get too excited.

"I loved it like the fans loved it, if they loved it,” he said.

“It is just brilliant. I didn't lie, I said when you see him moving it is just unbelievable, he looks completely fine. The situation is now that we have to build endurance.

"What they did so far, it makes sense. You do the things to make sure the knee is again at 100 per cent.

"That's obviously the case and that's good, but from that moment on then you need time to adapt to the intensity of the game and that will take a while.

"But I pretty much can't wait until we can involve him, at least for [a few] minutes. It is so nice.”

"He had hard times in the year – and in the end it pretty much will be a year – but he dealt with it in an impressive way, to be honest.

"Still, everyone knew he had a hard time, but since five or six weeks [ago] you can see he sees the end, the light at the end of the tunnel, and that gave him a massive boost, gives us a massive boost, so now it is really close."
