Swindon hold on for 2-1 win at Tranmere

Swindon moved within four points of the League Two play-offs with a 2-1 win at Tranmere.

James Norwood’s 18th league goal of the season was not enough for the hosts after goals from Marc Richards and Michael Doughty had given the Robins a deserved two-goal first-half lead.

Rovers improved massively after the break and Norwood hit back just before the hour mark, but despite spells of high pressure the hosts could not carve out an equaliser.

Swindon deservedly took the lead 20 minutes in when Rovers failed to cut out a cross from Ali Koiki and Richards was allowed to dart in between Steve McNulty and Manny Monthe to poke home from close range.

Ten minutes before the break, the visitors doubled their lead when Luke McCullough gifted the ball to Doughty who passed the ball beyond Davies into the net.

Tranmere came out with more purpose after the break and Norwood struck in the 59th minute – smashing home Ollie Banks’ cross – but though they pushed hard for an equaliser, Swindon held on for all three points.
