Arsenal transfer news: James Rodriguez latest as Bayern Munich ponder January deal

BAYERN MUNICH are still not totally decided on whether they ready to let James Rodriguez leave for Arsenal or sign him permanently.

The 2014 World Cup star’s future is very much up in the air at present.

With two weeks to go in the January transfer window, Rodriguez has emerged as an option for the Gunners.

The Real Madrid loanee has struggled to establish himself as a starter under Niko Kovac in recent months at the Allianz Arena.

And reports this week have suggested Bayern are willing to cut short his two-year loan.

Rodriguez has six months left on his deal, and if Arsenal were to take him, they would need to pay just £3m to Real to cover the cost until the end of the season.

Bayern, though, have the option to buy the 27-year-old outright for less than £40m in the summer.

The club could ultimately keep the Colombian, and their dithering approach is leaving his potential move to Arsenal in the balance.

Unai Emery has made it clear the club can only afford to bring players in on loan this month.

Rodriguez would not only add top-class creativity to Arsenal but would not cost a fortune.

Compared to £350,000-a-week out-of-favour Mesut Ozil, Rodriguez earns far less.

His wages are worth a reported £6m a year, which equates to around £115,000-a-week.

The Daily Mail say Rodriguez is expected to push for a move if Bayern cannot guarantee him game time.

He is now in direct competition with Thomas Muller for a place in the team but has not started a match since early November.

Arsenal could end up shelling out the few million it would cost to cover the loan fee, the Daily Mail add.

But it is suggested Gunners fans should not consider Rodriguez’s arrival a done deal yet.

Bayern’s gruelling title race with Borussia Dortmund this Spring, alongside the Champions League knockout stages, means they have no major need to give up Rodriguez.

It is said he was the ‘star student’ at Bayern’s winter training camp in Doha, despite his fraught relationship with Kovac.
